Product Introduction

Unlike traditional solvent-based or water-based flexographic inks, UV-curable flexographic inks do not rely on solvent evaporation for drying during the printing process; instead, they cure via UV energy, resulting in lower VOC emissions, rapid curing speeds, and stable printing performance.

The curing process for UV-curable flexo ink primarily involves the following steps:

Step 1: Ink Delivery

The flexographic printing press controls the volume of ink delivery via an anilox roller, transferring the ink evenly onto the surface of the flexible printing plate.

Process:

Ink Chamber → Anilox Roller → Printing Plate → Substrate

Step 2: Ink Transfer

The image areas on the printing plate come into contact with the substrate, transferring the ink onto materials such as:

PET film
PE film
PP film
PVC material
Paper
Aluminum foil composites
Step 3: UV Curing

The printed ink is exposed to UV light:

UV Light Energy → Photoinitiator Activation → Polymer Cross-linking → Solid Ink Film

Upon absorbing UV light energy, photoinitiators generate free radicals that trigger a polymerization reaction between resins and monomers, causing the ink to form a stable, cross-linked structure.

Customization Options

Lower viscosity for high-speed (>150 m/min)
Higher adhesion for untreated PE films
Reduced migration for sensitive packaging
Matte or gloss finish adjustments

FAQ:

What is UV Curable Flexo Ink?

It is a flexographic printing ink that uses ultraviolet light energy to cure and solidify the ink film through a photopolymerization process.

Unlike solvent-based inks that require solvent evaporation, it forms a cross-linked polymer structure after exposure to UV light. It is commonly used for label printing, flexible packaging, plastic films, and paper packaging applications.

How does UV Curable Flexo Ink work?

It works through a photochemical curing reaction.

The curing process includes:

Ink is transferred from the ink chamber to the anilox roller.
The anilox roller controls the ink volume transferred to the printing plate.
The printing plate transfers the image onto the substrate.
UV lamps or UV LED systems emit ultraviolet energy.
Photoinitiators absorb UV energy and start polymerization.
The liquid ink becomes a solid cross-linked ink film.

This process allows fast curing without traditional drying methods.
