Low-VOC water-based inks are printing materials that use water as the primary solvent (typically 30%-50%) and contain only trace amounts or no volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

 

Binder: Primarily water-soluble acrylic or polyurethane resins, determining the ink's adhesion, gloss, and abrasion resistance.

Pigments: Utilizing surface-treated, high-performance organic or inorganic pigments to ensure dispersion stability in water-based systems.

Additives: Containing defoamers, leveling agents, antistatic agents, and trace amounts of film-forming aids (controlled at low percentages to meet low-VOC standards).

Does water-based ink adhere well to plastic films?

Modern water-based inks, through the addition of special resins and crosslinking agents, exhibit very reliable adhesion to corona-treated films such as PET, BOPP, and PE. We can recommend corresponding formulations based on your substrate type and provide sample testing.

 

Will it affect printing speed?

No. High-quality water-based inks dry at speeds comparable to high-speed printing presses (over 300 meters per minute). With appropriate ovens or infrared drying systems, production efficiency is no different from solvent-based inks.

 

What about storage stability?

Low-VOC water-based inks, when stored sealed at 5-35℃, typically have a shelf life of over 12 months. Simply avoid freezing and high-temperature exposure, and stir well before use.

 

Can it completely replace solvent-based inks?

For paper, cardboard, textiles, and most flexible packaging, water-based inks can completely replace solvent-based inks. For certain special requirements (such as extremely high chemical resistance and ultra-low residual odor), we also have corresponding specialized water-based solutions.
