With the increasing emphasis on environmental protection and sustainable manufacturing, water-based high-pigment inks are gradually replacing traditional solvent-based inks in many printing industries. Solvent inks typically contain high levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can cause environmental pollution and health risks for workers. In contrast, water-based inks use water as the primary carrier, significantly reducing harmful emissions and improving workplace safety.

A key technological advancement in modern water-based inks is the development of high-stability pigment dispersion systems. In these systems, advanced dispersing agents and nano-level grinding technology are used to evenly distribute pigment particles throughout the ink. This prevents pigment agglomeration and sedimentation, ensuring that the ink remains stable during storage and printing.

Another important advantage of modern water-based high-pigment inks is their improved drying performance. Traditional water-based inks were sometimes criticized for slower drying times compared with solvent-based inks. However, recent innovations in resin technology, drying additives, and optimized pigment formulations have significantly enhanced the drying speed.

Suitable Fabrics

 

Water-based high-pigment inks are suitable for a wide range of textile materials, including cotton, linen, rayon, viscose, polyester, nylon, cotton-polyester blends, and elastic fabrics such as spandex or lycra. These inks provide excellent color penetration on natural fibers and strong adhesion on synthetic materials, ensuring vibrant prints and long-lasting durability. They are also widely used on towels, canvas, and various home textile fabrics, where high color coverage and good wash resistance are required for decorative and functional printing applications.

What makes water-based textile ink different from plastisol ink?

The key difference lies in feel and performance. Water-based ink forms a thin, flexible film that feels soft and breathable on the fabric, similar to the material itself. In contrast, plastisol ink creates a thicker, plastic-like layer that can feel stiff, especially on dark garments. Water-based is also more eco-friendly and safer for workers.

Does this ink work on all fabric types?

It works exceptionally well on a wide range of materials. Our standard formulations are optimized for cotton, polyester, and cotton-polyester blends. For specialized fabrics like spandex (elastane), we offer inks with enhanced flexibility to ensure the print doesn't crack when the material stretches. We also have specific options for delicate fabrics like silk and rayon.

How do I ensure the best color fastness after printing?

Achieving excellent color fastness relies on three key steps:
Curing properly: Follow the recommended temperature and time settings (usually 150°C - 170°C for 1-3 minutes) to fully bond the ink to the fibers.

Pre-treating: For dark or non-porous fabrics, use a suitable pre-treatment agent to improve adhesion.
Washing test: After curing, perform a quick rinse to remove any unbound particles, which helps prevent color bleeding during subsequent washes.
